Apply for the Fellowship

Thank you for your interest in the Scan Design Foundation Fellowship Program! We encourage applications from undergraduate, graduate, and PhD students in all University of Washington majors. We typically award 15 terms of Fellowships for the academic year and six or more for the summer.

The application window for 2021–2022 Fellowships is now closed. Applications for summer 2022 and the 2022–2023 academic year will be due late January, 2022. We look forward to receiving your application!

Fall/Spring Fellowship - Eligibility Requirements

In order to be eligible to receive fellowship funding you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a US Citizen
  • Be a University of Washington matriculated undergraduate sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student. Students participating in fee-based degree programs run by UW Educational Outreach (UWEO) are also eligible.
  • Apply to a UW Danish Study Abroad/Exchange Program through the UW Study Abroad Office by January 31, 2021.

Summer Fellowship - Eligibility Requirements

In order to be eligible to receive fellowship funding you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a US Citizen
  • Be a University of Washington matriculated undergraduate junior, senior, or graduate student. Students participating in fee-based degree programs run by UW Educational Outreach (UWEO) are also eligible.
  • Provide a summer study/travel proposal that outlines your plans to participate in one of the options below. All of the options below are eligible for summer funding. (Should you require more information, you are welcome to meet with Mike Renes in the UW Study Abroad office – this is highly recommended if you are unsure of what constitutes independent research):
    1. DIS (Danish Institute for Study Abroad) — Summer courses for 3-9 credits.
    2. Aarhus Summer University — Summer courses for 5 and 10 ECTS credits.
    3. University of Copenhagen — Summer courses with variable ECTS credits.
    4. Copenhagen Business School — Summer courses with variable ECTS credits.
    5. Independent Learning — Qualified UW graduate and advanced undergraduate students who are seeking an international experience that does not align with other study abroad models. This can include independent research, independent study, and internships. Requires a UW faculty sponsor.
