When you are ready to apply to a study abroad program, you will complete your application through the UW Study Abroad application portal. There is no separate application for Scan Design Foundation Fellowship funding. All students participating in the following programs in Denmark will receive Fellowship funding, according to financial need. Funding ranges between $1000 – $16,000 per semester.

Exchanges

University-Wide Exchanges

Exchange students pay UW tuition and attend regular classes and earn credit at the partner university for a semester or an academic year. University-wide exchanges are typically open to students in all majors at the University of Washington. Courses are taught in English.

Departmental/College-Based Exchanges

In departmental exchanges, students attend classes and earn credit at a non-US university through a partnership with a UW school, college, or department. Students pay UW tuition and attend regular classes and earn credit at the partner university for a semester or an academic year.

Departmental/college-based exchanges are discipline-based and are typically restricted to that unit. Student selection is managed by the academic department. Applications are made through the UW Study Abroad portal. Students interested in departmental exchanges should contact their program advisor for more information.

College of Built Environments
Students in the College of Built Environments interested in applying to Aarhus School of Architecture will complete an application through the Study Abroad application portal.

Foster School of Business
Students in the Foster School interested in applying for Copenhagen Business School should visit the Global Business Center website to learn more. Applications are processed through the Study Abroad application portal.

College of Engineering
Students in the Department of Chemical Engineering interested in participating in the College of Engineering Technical University of Denmark (DTU) Summer Chemical Engineering Lab Program should apply through the Study Abroad application portal.

Partner Programs

Partner Programs are approved study abroad options administered by other universities, study abroad program providers, or foreign language schools. These programs are vetted and approved by UW Study Abroad. Participants receive regular UW credit for coursework completed.

Partner programs in Denmark include the DIS – Study Abroad in Scandinavia.

Direct Enrollment

Direct Enrollment Programs are approved study abroad options in which a student directly enrolls at another university or foreign language school. Students pay tuition directly to the institution abroad and receive regular UW credit for coursework completed. Direct enrollment opportunities in Denmark are available through

Fieldwork, Research, & Independent Learning Abroad (FRILA)

The FRILA program allows students to undertake degree-related international travel while being fully enrolled at UW, covered by insurance abroad, and supported by UW Global Travel Security to ensure their health and safety. Examples of official international travel covered by FRILA include independent research, fieldwork, internships, practicum, and clinical electives. Participants pay only the UW Study Abroad admin fee, which is approximately $500/quarter.
